Voters across Chesterfield, Wildwood and surrounding communities head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 3, in Missouri’s most competitive U.S. House race, according to the Cook Political Report.
Rep. Ann Wagner, a Ballwin Republican seeking her eighth term, faces Democratic challenger Fred Wellman and Libertarian Brandon Coulter Daugherty in the 2nd Congressional District. The district covers south and west St. Louis County, including Chesterfield, Wildwood, Kirkwood and Ballwin, along with western St. Charles County, Warren County, and Franklin County, according to a KSDK voter guide.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters in line at 7 p.m. will still be allowed to cast a ballot, according to the Missouri Secretary of State's office.
A September survey by Republican polling firm Remington Research Group showed Wagner at 43% and Wellman at 42%, with 12% undecided, First Alert 4 reported. Wagner won by 12 points in her last race. The Cook Political Report rates the district "Likely Republican," according to the Missouri Independent.
Wagner, 64, has represented the district since 2013 and serves on the House Financial Services Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence, according to the Webster-Kirkwood Times. She previously served as ambassador to Luxembourg.
Wellman, 61, is a Kirkwood native and retired Army lieutenant colonel with a West Point degree and four combat tours. He founded a veterans-focused communication firm and served as executive director of the Lincoln Project, the Webster-Kirkwood Times reported. This is his first run for office.
One factor to watch: the Nov. 3 races use the 2022 district lines, not the 2025 map used in the August primary. The U.S. Supreme Court blocked the newer map, and voters will decide its fate separately through Proposition A on the same ballot.
Missouri precincts begin reporting results after polls close at 7 p.m. Unofficial results will be posted on the Secretary of State's Election Night Reporting page.
