Marquette, Lafayette and Eureka all saw their team postseason runs end at the Class 3 District 2 girls tennis tournament in Wildwood. Undefeated Ladue Horton Watkins beat John Burroughs 5-4 on Thursday, Oct. 15, to claim the district championship.

The four-day tournament ran Oct. 12–15 at Lafayette High School, located at 17050 Clayton Road in Wildwood. The tournament was hosted by Lafayette High School, according to the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) tournament bracket.

Seven teams competed. Marquette High School entered as the No. 4 seed with a 13-6 regular-season record. Lafayette earned the No. 3 seed at 10-6, and Eureka was seeded fifth at 7-4.

In the quarterfinals on Monday, Oct. 12, Marquette blanked Eureka 5-0. Lafayette beat Parkway South 5-0. Top-seeded Ladue (14-0) received a first-round bye.

The semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 13, ended the road for both remaining local squads. Ladue shut out Marquette 5-0. John Burroughs, the No. 2 seed, eliminated Lafayette in the other semifinal. The MSHSAA tournament bracket lists that result as 5-4, while the MSHSAA scoreboard recorded it as 5-1.

The Ladue School District noted on Instagram before the team tournament that the girls tennis program had completed an undefeated regular season. The post also highlighted sophomore Malia Tipton, who qualified for state in singles after the individual district tournament.

Ladue advances to sectional play. They will face Lindbergh on Monday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m.
