Marquette High School's boys soccer team opens the Class 4 District 2 tournament Saturday, Oct. 31, against Eureka at 10 a.m. at Ladue West Campus in Creve Coeur.

The Mustangs enter as the No. 2 seed with a 13-8-1 record, according to the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA). Eureka is the No. 7 seed.

Here's the wrinkle for Marquette fans: the Mustangs already beat the Wildcats 3-2 on Oct. 6 in the regular season. That win extended Marquette's current streak against Eureka to three straight, according to MSHSAA matchup records. Marquette leads 16-6 in games with results recorded by MSHSAA.

The postseason is a different story.

Marquette is 0-4 against Eureka in playoff games. The Wildcats knocked the Mustangs out of the Class 4 District 2 tournament in both 2022 and 2023, winning 1-0 each time. Eureka also won district tournament meetings in 2009 and 2011.

Marquette closed the regular season with a 0-0 tie at Vianney High School on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Before that, the Mustangs beat Lafayette 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 12, topped Rockwood Summit 4-2 on Sept. 22 and defeated Parkway West 3-0 on Sept. 2.

The Wildcats carried an 13-7-1 record heading into their final regular-season stretch, the Leader reported. Eureka head coach Mike Hanna said his team played tough against all of the teams in their district.

Saturday's game will be played on the Lower Turf Field at Ladue West Campus, 10900 Ladue Road in Creve Coeur. The Class 4 District 2 tournament runs through Nov. 7, with the Class 4 state tournament scheduled for Nov. 14-21.
