Chesterfield Valley commuters who drive I-64 into the city will lose the eastbound lanes between Vandeventer and Compton for roughly a year starting in fall 2027.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) plans to remove and replace the elevated eastbound bridge over Vandeventer Avenue and update the eastbound connection to Grand Avenue. The closure will force eastbound traffic onto a city-street detour that MoDOT has not yet detailed publicly.
MoDOT will hold an open house Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 18 Rails, City Foundry, 3700 Foundry Way, St. Louis. No formal presentation is scheduled. Engineers will be on hand to walk through construction plans, according to a MoDOT press release. Anyone needing accommodations should contact Andrew Gates before Friday, Oct. 16, at [email protected] or 314-223-8003.
Beyond the eastbound closure, the project includes rehabilitation of the westbound I-64 bridge between Compton and Boyle. Plans also call for a new roundabout serving Grand and Compton avenues and widening of the Compton Avenue bridge to add bicycle and pedestrian space.
The project grew out of a MoDOT corridor study called Future64 and is being conducted with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Residents who cannot attend in person can find project details at modot.org/future64/funded starting Oct. 21.
Construction is set to begin in fall 2027, with the eastbound closure expected to last about one year.
