Parkway West scored 49 points Friday, Oct. 16, in Ballwin, beating Hazelwood West 49-20 and snapping a two-game losing streak that had dropped the Longhorns to 5-2.
The win moved Parkway West to 6-2 on the season, according to the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) matchup page. The Longhorns are averaging 32 points per game and allowing 15.4.
The 49-point outburst was a sharp reversal. Parkway West had managed just 14 combined points in back-to-back losses to Fox (7-27 on Oct. 2) and Lindbergh (7-45 on Oct. 9). Those defeats came after the Longhorns opened the season 5-0 with wins over Parkway North, Parkway South, Parkway Central, Riverview Gardens and Hazelwood East.
In the Oct. 9 loss at Lindbergh, the Flyers held Parkway West to 96 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers, according to Metro Sports STL. Quarterback Braden Biermann faced steady pressure from a Lindbergh defensive line that produced sacks, hurries and batted balls throughout the game.
Against Hazelwood West, now 2-6 and allowing 41 points per game, the Longhorns' 49-point output was their second-highest of the season behind a 50-0 shutout of Riverview Gardens on Sept. 18.
The schedule gets tougher fast. Parkway West travels to Ladue Horton Watkins on Thursday, Oct. 22, for a 7 p.m. kickoff, per MSHSAA's matchup listing. The Rams are 8-0 and averaging 47 points per game.
Both teams are in Class 5. Parkway West defeated Ladue 44-7 in their 2022 playoff meeting.
