Scott Fitzpatrick, the Republican incumbent, is seeking reelection as Missouri state auditor in the Nov. 3 general election. He faces Quentin Wilson (Democratic) and Dustin Coffell (Libertarian).
Fitzpatrick said in our candidate questionnaire: "I am seeking reelection as State Auditor because the job duties are exactly why I ran for public office in the first place. … Now as Auditor, my mission hasn't changed and still remains simple: protect taxpayers, hold government accountable for how it uses your money, and point out ways government can work better for the people it serves."
Candidate information
Party: Republican
Education: "I'm the proud product of public school, graduating from Cassville Highschool in 2006. I received my BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management from the University of Missouri in 2010," Fitzpatrick said in our questionnaire.
Family: "I'm a blessed husband to Mallory and father to four boys: Twins Luke and Carson (11), Noah (5), and Henry (3)," he said.
Occupation: "I started a business, MariCorp U.S., when I was a teenager and grew it into a one of the largest boat dock manufacturing and construction companies in the United States …," Fitzpatrick said.
Experience and public service
"Prior to becoming State Auditor in 2023, I served as Missouri State Treasurer from 2019-2023, and a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 2013-2019, where I was the chairman of the Budget Committee," Fitzpatrick said in our questionnaire.
As auditor, Fitzpatrick has evaluated the Kansas City Chiefs' potential move out of state, audited the Governor's Office under former Gov. Mike Parson and found Jackson County's tax assessment appeals process to be broken, according to the Kansas City Star.
On the issues
Audit priorities: "Public education represents the second largest expenditure in Missouri's budget, and parents and taxpayers deserve to know whether those resources are being used effectively to improve student outcomes," Fitzpatrick said. He added that federal pass-through spending "deserves continued scrutiny" because pandemic-era distributions "created significant opportunities for waste, misuse, and fraud."
Partisan independence: "If you look at my record … you will see that I've never held back tough questions or tough audit findings, even with members of my own party," he said. "We must simply call balls and strikes."
Endorsements
Fitzpatrick has been endorsed by Missouri Right to Life PAC, according to BallotReady.
