An Ellisville man is jailed on $200,000 cash-only bond after police say he attacked a man and demanded his belongings at Bluebird Park.
Abdulwareth A. Alahmad faces charges of first-degree assault and first-degree property damage motivated by discrimination, as FOX 2 reported. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office filed the charges.
The attack happened around 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the park on Kiefer Creek Road, according to the Ellisville Police Department's probable cause statement. The victim told police he had arranged to meet someone named "Adam" from a dating site.
After the two began talking, "Adam" told the victim, "I actually hate gay people." Four men then emerged from nearby bushes. The group punched and kicked the victim, demanded his belongings and used homophobic and racist slurs, police said.
The victim ran to his car and drove to the police station. Investigators recovered surveillance footage that captured the suspects' vehicle and traced it to Alahmad. The victim identified Alahmad as "Adam." Police stopped his vehicle around 10 p.m. that evening and arrested him.
Alahmad is scheduled for a bond reduction hearing Oct. 28. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 17.
FOX 2’s report did not state whether the four other men allegedly involved had been identified, arrested or charged.
