Rockwood Extends Superintendent Cain's Contract Through 2029
Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain will lead the Rockwood School District through the 2028-2029 school year after the Board of Education voted 7-0 to extend his contract, the district announced Thursday, April 24 — roughly two months after the vote took place.
The unanimous decision, made at the board's Feb. 19 meeting, marks the third consecutive year the board has added time to Cain's deal. His original contract ran through 2024-2025; the board extended it through 2026-2027 in spring 2024, through 2027-2028 in spring 2025, and now through 2028-2029.
"Dr. Cain displays an admirable commitment to advocating for the students, staff members and families of the Rockwood School District, as well as our entire community," Board President Tamara Jo Rhomberg said in the announcement. "We know that he will continue to make a positive impact on Rockwood as we chart our path for the future."
Then-Board President Lynne Midyett also praised Cain's leadership when the board approved the extension in February.
Cain joined Rockwood in July 2022 after a nationwide search and is finishing his fourth year leading the district, which serves roughly 21,800 students across Chesterfield, Wildwood, Ballwin, Ellisville, and Eureka. During his tenure, the board adopted a five-year strategic plan called "Forward Together," and the district has continued earning national financial reporting awards from the Association of School Business Officials International.
Cain has also been active in pushing back against proposed state budget cuts that could reduce funding for Missouri public schools, including organizing a joint meeting with the Parkway School District board in March — believed to be the first time the two boards had met together.
The district did not disclose salary details or performance benchmarks tied to the extension.
