Parkway Central’s football team lost 42–14 to Fox on Friday, Oct. 23, finishing the regular season 0–9.
The record is the worst single season in program history, according to the Corral, Parkway Central High School's student newspaper. The loss also extended the program's losing streak to 18 games across two seasons, which the Corral reported is the longest in program history, dating to 1957.
Fox scored on its opening drive to go up 7-0. Parkway Central moved the ball on its first possession, connecting on a 24-yard pass and converting a fourth down. But the Colts' field goal attempt was blocked and returned to the Fox 46-yard line, ending the drive. Fox then added a 42-yard rushing touchdown, a punt return score and one more touchdown to pull out of reach before halftime.
Quarterback John Mertz and wide receiver Drew Harris connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass in the second half for one of the Colts' two scores.
Despite the winless record, the season is not over. Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) rules have required every team to qualify for the playoffs since the 2010s, regardless of record. That sends Parkway Central to Rockwood Summit High School for a first-round game Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.
