The win capped a district tournament run that tested Summit at every turn. Summit opened the tournament on Oct. 20 with a 3-0 sweep of Gateway with Soldan International Studies, winning sets 25-3, 25-7 and 25-1.
Summit entered the championship as the No. 1 seed with a 25-9-1 overall record. Third-seeded Ursuline came in at 11-10. The Falcons had historically struggled against the Bears, carrying a 0-5 all-time record into the match. Monday's result was Summit's first-ever postseason victory over Ursuline, per MSHSAA matchup history.
Other Summit players visible in the championship match included Delaney Pye (No. 8), Kennedy Fowler (No. 4), Avery Long (No. 10) and Zoey Zweifel (No. 11), per Post-Dispatch photo coverage.
