Wildwood Council Votes Monday on $210K Restroom for All-Inclusive Playground
Wildwood's City Council votes Monday evening on a roughly $210,000 restroom facility, the next piece of the Village Green All-Inclusive Playground that the community has rallied more than $1.8 million to build.
Bill #3053 would authorize City Administrator Thomas Lee to execute a purchase order with All-Inclusive Rec LLC for the restroom, described in the ordinance as "a major component of Phase Two" of the Village Green project. The playground is planned for the west half of Village Green in Town Center.
Monday's vote is a second reading. The Planning and Parks Committee recommended the bill after it was introduced April 13, and it is listed as unfinished business on the agenda.
The timeline matters. A $575,000 St. Louis County Municipal Park Grant requires construction work to begin before June 2026. That grant covers a significant chunk of the estimated $2.3 million project, leaving the city responsible for roughly $1.7 million.
When the city announced the playground in October 2025, donors had covered 25% of the $2.3 million goal. As of this month, the Unlimited Play fundraising page shows 80% reached, about $1.84 million raised in total. That jump of roughly $1.26 million in seven months reflects broad support for a playground where children who use wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids can play alongside their peers on accessible surfaces rather than mulch.
The design team includes two local firms, Ideal Landscape Group and Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc., working alongside national nonprofit Unlimited Play. A third revised set of engineered plans was completed in April, according to a city planning memo.
Natalie Fletcher, an early childhood teacher, said at the project's October 2025 launch: "Kids just get to be kids doing what they do best: playing. But it will be on an equal playing field giving everyone access to enjoy the outdoors and one another."
Monday's meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 16860 Main Street. Residents can also watch via the city's livestream or join by Zoom (Webinar ID: 452 669 612).
